THE FUTURE VILLAGE

The Future Village serves children and youth in the Russell neighborhood through year-round programming, including:

- BYOL - Be Your Leader (for 2nd-5th grade students)

  • After School Tutoring

  • Summer Enrichment Program

  • These programs help students:

  • Understand their collective African-American identity as well as their identities through music, art, dance, and drama.

  • Develop literacy skills to enhance their moral growth and leadership abilities.

  • Become digitally literate.

  • Build nurturing relationships with adult mentors.

Through monthly theme-based activities, students explore their cultural and historical heritage and create self-designed projects. They utilize multimodal technology and performance to express their beliefs, art, leadership, language, economy, and customs. Students collaborate to present their learning to the community each month. The program includes quarterly field trips, support from two mental health professionals, 12 guest speakers, and two artists-in-residence to enrich their experiences further.

BYOL meets on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 4 PM to 7 PM. Meals are provided.
